Much like after the birth of our first son, there was a consistent, although friendly, line of questioning about what we chose to call our second son. Cade? Where'd that come from? How'd you pick that name?
I told the quick story of how we arrived at Blake's name back in May of 2010. Read it here:
Blake's Name
The story of Cade's name is just as quick. It comes from nowhere in particular. It comes from a couple of months of brainstorming. Like Blake's name, I think it was Ryan who put Cade's name on the short list. In the end, it came down to two possible names, and I asked Ryan to be the one to call it the moments our baby boy was born.
That was also the case with Blake, although I may not have disclosed that in the Blake blog. Blake was nearly Jackson, but Ryan went with Blake as soon as the doctors had him in their hands. Cade could have been Brock. But the moment he was born, Ryan called him Cade. And I must say, he picked both names perfectly. I couldn't imagine two little Becker boys with better names.
As for Cade, we also got some questions about how to pronounce it.
My standard answer was Cade, like cascade or arcade.
Sometimes, I say it's Cade, like that project has been Ok'd.
Since naming Cade, I have learned about Cades Cove in Tennessee's Great Smoky Mountains.
Maybe a family visit some day?
I have also learned there's a Cade Skywalker, a descendant of Luke. Who knew?

Then, there's Cade Winery in Napa. Apparently in the old days, cade was a term referring to a casket of wine.
Cheers to that.
And there's a Cade Tree. I don't know if we have room for another Cade at our house.
Of course, I would be remiss not to realize one other cool thing about my son's name.
There's another member of the family whose name is pretty similar.
He's not named after her per se, but I smile when I think about my Cade and his amazing Aunt Katy.
